enclosure humidity

I have a one year old diamond python and she seems to be dehydrated. How much humidity should be in the enclosure and in what ways can i regulate the humidity? Please help.

RE: enclosure humidity

Humdity should be around 55. If the animal is shedding higher humidity is desireable. You can increase humidity by having a container of water or damp spagum moss at the hot end. Once a week all my wet area pythons have the enclosures sprayed with water to raise the humidity to 90% for a couple of hours. Fake plants sprayed with water are a great way of maintaining humidity.
How does she appear dehydrated? Is she comming into a shed?

RE: enclosure humidity

What about if u have the humidity at between 70 and 90% for macs? the sand makes the humidity high.

RE: enclosure humidity

Diamonds tollerate more of a temperate climate so they dont need the high humidity levels like most other aussie pythons. I keep mine at 50-60% like fuscus said, and they are as healthy as they come. make sure the water is away from the heat source and is fresh and not in a bowl that is too deep. maybe also supplementing its food with a multi vitamin liquid may help.

oops, forgot to say that only keep the water away from the heat for drinking, not humidity purposes. you could try using an ice cream container with air holes - half filled with sand or soil. topping it up with a splash of water once a week works for me, and is also mess free.
