If this will be your first reptile than go all out on asthetics. Make the enclosure a show piece of your house. If keeping only a small collection substrates like astro-turf, marine carpet, breeders choice, different timber mulch etc will look much better than plain old boring newspaper. However once you establish a large collection newspaper has the benefits of being easier & less time consuming to clean as well as alot cheaper alternative.

|  | Hibernating Subscriber | Join Date: Nov-05 Location: Melbourne - West Age/Gender: 39  | | | | Our first reptile was a Childreni (from Afro). He still stays in the same enlcosure and it has compressed sawdust pellets. The enclosure is ecked right out.
But we then got another snake, and another snake and so on and so on. Much cheaper to use newspaper and quiker and easier to clean. More time to play.
