I was wondering what everyone thinks of pegboard used as the backing on enclosures.Would it lose much heat and humidity? Its my understanding that it wouldnt lose too much heat due to the rear of the enclosure being against a house wall hence no real drafts etc.
But I'd really like everyones opinion on this.

Cyber. If in doubt you could use pegboard half the enclosure, and normal masonite (or similar) for the other half.
I think that the pegboard would be fine though. Especially if you have it against a wall.... The only reason it would be a problem i guess would be if it was a relatively breezy area. You might get a lot of drafts....

I have pegboard backs in all but 1 of my enclosures. If not the whole back then at least the top half of the enclosure. I reckon the more ventillation the better. It doesn't have any adverse affect on temps or humidity.

Cheers guys.
I used pegboard backs on all my old enclosures but just want to make sure that they will be suitable (even though I had no probs with them in the past) Greg
You dont think it would lose humidity with such ventilation? I guess if there was a humidity problem it could be corrected with the waterbowl being closer to the heat source. The actual temps arn't really much of a concern as the rear of the enclosure will be against a wall (worse case scenario the heat source would stay on a bit longer than normal) PLEASE anyone else have an opinion? |

You answered your own question John. I've only ever had one problem with bad shedding and when I upped the size of the water bowl I haven't had a problem again.

Well for what its worth I don't use pegboard backs but this is not for any operational reasons just that I don't like the look of it. No help I know but you did ask for more opinions |

I guess if it dont hurt then why not? You also get the added benefit of a place to hang your tools
Personally to me it looks way to ugly.

hi guys
i dont like to use it for two reasons..
i to think its not real atractive but the main reason is its very prous and will soak up moisture weather it be from cleaning or a well placed mess from the inhabitant..lol
while you can seal the face surface ok it is very hard to seal the cut outs of all the little holes..
anyway just a thought.
cheers paul.

I have used pegboard a couple of times. Don't really like it though. Largely because it is ugly, but also very expensive. Never had any worries with humidity or temps though.
