Enclosure's Lighting

What is everybody's thought on enclosure heating? do many people use say 3x blue globes in a 3foot unit and no basking light or do all of your enclosures have a basking light? if you do have just a basking light is that better than the blue light? Would love feed back on this topic.

Thanks Ricko

You talking about snakes or lizards? Lizards, especially dragons, require UV light and a basking light or sunlight is required. With pythons its a maybe.

i just use painted light globes to a prefered wattage, either 60/75/100 watt depending on the size of the enclosure then paint them with red engine paint. Granted it gives the general public the view that maybe your house is a brothel but the snakes like em

Cheers

The only light in my enclosures is for viewing. I use Ceramic heaters - love them! Haven't had any fail in the last three years.

I also use ceramics, but have had one fail which can be a problem as it is hard to detect. I also have UV fluros.

Fuscus,
I way around knowing if the ceramic has blown or not is simply to buy a thermonitor with a alarm, when the heat goes too low then the alarm will sound!

Any decent Petshop, that sells Reptile equipment, or you can have them sent through the Herp Shop, where they are on special at the moment.
$29 all wattages, nearly half to what I paid.

I have three blue globes on a thermostat and one designated basking light not on a thermostat in each of my enclosures. I find this set up perfect for me. It's trial and effor, finding out what works for you!
