I just had your basic animal container you get from the petshop or warehouse. Its a plastic clear base with a ventilated lid. But yeah i believe a dead mouse be even as good that why you can place it anywhere (even within the actual snake enclosure). And that is a good idea to get a hide and heat mat.
After a big feed snakes are vulnerable (due to slow movement) and will hide straight after, and hiding somewhere with a heat source is an added bonus as they need heat to digest their food. So if you offer all those elements, it would theortically be an ideal location to rest and hopfully you'll find him there!! But keep checking out your progress during the night, hopfully you won't miss him! I wish you all the luck in the world and keep me posted on your progress! |

Hi again, still no luck. I just wanted to ask a quick question again.
I wanted to set something up for tonight untill i can get a heat mat tomorrow. Do you think it would be an ok idea to get a lamp and set it up with a hide right near it? I was thinking that the snake wont go near normal light from a globe but if i use one of my infared globes from my enclosure, will he come near that or will my snake see that as too lighted up area aswell? i was thinking about just defrosting a mouse tonight and leaving that on a dish next to the hide under my infared light. If you guys think this will work, ill go get it set up.

Have you tried looking somewhere where there might be mice in your house. Every house has mice sometimes. I found one of my snakes once where i knew there had been some mice. I also found another one in one of my wifes shoes. I thought i would have to take her to the vet ( the snake, not my wife ) because the wife has to use odour eaters in her shoes and they dont even work. Poor snake was in there for a couple of hours i think. Anyway, good luck mate. Dont give up

when mine go missing which has happened a few times now they never leave the room they are in as my hallway is always colder than the reptile room
i usually find mine behind there enclosure wrapped around electrical cord or hiding in the blinds some where
another idea and some may laugh is to open its enclosure he tinyest bit so that it keeps heat but he can get back in if he wants sounds funny but one of mine came back home after a few hours of frantic searching imagine my face when i had stopped looking and sat down for a few beers to have a think about where he could be couple hours later when it was dark i started the search again and there he was back in his enclosure lol
good luck with him hope he comes home safe and sound

Mate, unless your cat is very strange and has no interest in little wriggly squirmy things, I would start with checking cat poo-poo! I hope very sincerely that you find your little guy, I lost my little spotted python at only six months old, turned the entire house inside out (to my mum's horror), and I ended up finding her curled up in my laundry basket at the end of my bed. I hope you have the same luck. And seriously, convince your parents to get the other animals out of the house, as you have no chance in finding him first if you have a cat on the loose!
Another thing, I know you must have spent quite a bit of money on the little guy, but keep in mind that even if you dont find him, snakes are one of the few creatures that will have little trouble surviving in the wild (or in your roof), after living in captivity, as their instincts are so strongly imbedded. Also, very young snakes should probably be kept in plastic containers (preferably click-clack type), as they have no chance of escaping from these, and often feel more comfortable and safer in them. Young snakes can also slide between the space between the glass doors of your vivarium, (they can fit into anything as narrow or wide as their head!) which is also another good reason to keep them in a plastic container until they get bigger. I know that this probably wont help you find him, but it might help to prevent you losing him again!
Good luck, and let us know when you find him! |

Once had a female spotted loose in the house for 2 weeks. Found her one night watching the telly............She also turned my PC on and on one occasion turned the electric blancket on while I was sleeping and must have hopped in.
Good luck with your search
Found my baby under the TV cabinet and in the corner of the reptile room and once right near the back door on the cold tiles.

Just thought i'd let everyone know that i went out today and bought a mouse and a heat mat and im ready to go snake hunting. I've got my torch next to my bed so im ready to get up each hour and find that little rat bag. Buggered if i know what im gonna do with this little mouse after i catch the snake though. Im thinking about meybe getting a female one and feeding their babies to my little snake. I felt sorry for the poor little mouse so i got him a wheel and a shoe to hide in. LOL! He's gonna be scared to death when Fang comes out from behind the shadow. Tonight's the night. IM EXCITED. Ive been over my enclosure and there is defently no holes the snake can escape from again. i just siliconed up the old holes. OK everyone wish me Luck!
By the way, Im not calling my snake fang! I havn't thought of a reasonable name yet.

how about Hudini Its good to see ppl have a heart. Goodluck maca
What enclosure do you have? Does it have sliding glass doors? if so watch the gap where the two pieces of glass meet. They will even try to squeeze through that.

Gross as it is, mouse poo tends to have the strongest scent if you are trying to get large scent volume. One suggestion, is to get the snake to actually hunt the mouse. Get a bit of mouse poo, and leave a light scent trail through the house with it. (obvioiusly don't leave a big poo smear on the floorbecause your mum will squeal like a pig) Just hold it to the floor, and slowly move it towards your room so that it leaves behind a scent on the floor itself. If possible have the scent fairly weak at the start of the trail, and make it get stronger (by using more pressure or more poo), the snake will follow the stronger scent. Or get a dead mouse and rub it on the floor making a trail towards your room. The basic effect you are looking for is to make a fake mouse track towards its little mousey burrow, or in this case cage. Can't guarantee it will work, but it is certainly worth a go. I definately like the sand idea too.. What if you put sand in the mouse cage for a day or two and then used the sand to make a trail towards your room? you will certainly know if the snake has followed the trail or not

I think it's absolutely adorable that your live mousebait ended up with a gorgeous little home to live in.
