eye scale retained

Just needing some help with Stellar as she seems to have her old eye scales on. It looks like they are starting to push upwards as it looks as though they are lifting up a little and it is only noticeable on the top half of her eyes.

Anyway last night when I saw it I got a wet cotton tip while Ray held her still and tried to wipe it which didn't do anything and I got upset because she really didn't like being held This morning before I had a shower I put her in the bathroom in her click clack with water in the bottom and a towel. Anyway while I had my shower I could see her putting her head under the water and pushing her head into the towel but she didn't get eye scales off. I took her out of the click clack and tried wiping it again with the wet cotton tip but it wasn't doing anything again.

I don't want to keep doing it because I don't want to stress her out or hurt her . I don't want to put tweezers anywhere near her eyes and I'm not sure about the sticky tape thing either. Would anyone know if the sticky tape idea would be ok and if I did that would I soak her first then do it? Also would it be a bad idea because the scale seems to only be on half her eye?

Sorry for writing so much and thanks in advance for any help!

Are you sure that she has retained the spectacle lens? If they are there, they should lift up easily with a few gentle wipes of a wet cotton tip.
Please don't put sticky tape anywhere near your snakes eyes. I'm not sure where you heard that dodgy piece of advice.

If you are having trouble with an eye lens for the first time, just leave it be, it happens from time to time and will not hurt them. It will more than likeley come off on the next shed. If it does not come off the next shed or this is not the first shed that it has had the problem then take it to a vet and get them to show what to do as it will need to be removed and you will have to learn how to do this.

Thanks for that. Greebo I saw them do it on tv but it was a big snake so I wasn't sure. The top part of her eyes are cloudy and I can see stuff lifting up a little on her eyes if I am looking down along the top of her head.

Ozianimals it is the first time it has happened so I will leave it until her next shed and see what happens. It just seems to be irritating her and thought that it was easy to fix after I read about the wet cotton tip.

I did put another water bowl in the hot end should I take that out now? Thanks for your help

I'd suggest gettting some "chlorsig" eye ointment and putting it on the retained scale twice a day.
It will help kill any infection and also really softens up the old scale and makes it come off very easily.
This is the method I have used in the past.

It will be a little annoying to her but it is a lot easier to let her deal with it on her next shed than to go poking near her eye. If it keeps on happening, the vet will show you the best methods for removing this so as not to be uncomfortable for you and the snake. My carpet had the same issue and on her last shed no probs. The only issue is that they can not see 100% out of that eye and for that reason may be a little flighty compared to usual, but not bad enough to worry.
Also Magpie has good advice (with out being a vet).

Thanks for that Magpie I will try get to the vet before it closes tonight and see if they have any. If they don't have any I guess I will leave her alone and feed her every week again to get her to shed sooner.

Thanks Ozianimals I was getting upset and was about ready to either take her to the vet or find someone closer to me to show me how to do it and how to hold her properly to keep her still. I can tell that she can't see properly but at least it won't affect her feeding because she doesn't strike at her food. Hopefully she will be fine next shed like your carpet.

Thank you for all your help!

I should have been more specific, get it from the chemist. It's an eye ointment for humans.

But make sure you get the ointment, not drops.
