Hi Guys,
I looked in chat to see if i could get an answer without posting, but its pretty quiet today! I am going to try my first feed on a yearling coastal python today..and have a couple of questions.
I plan on removing him from his enclosure to feed in a click-clack. I know that you shouldnt handle them after a feed for a minimum of 24 hours, does this mean I should leave him in the click-clack during this time? I dont have heating for the click-clack (not that its vital at the moment as we have 35 degree + temps in Adelaide at the moment, and it does get over warm in the small click-clack) Im worried about over heating in the container, and wether its safe to place him back in his enclosure after the feed.
Also, I purchased a 3 ft enclosure that was fully set up with lights and thermostat...Im still coming to grips with how its working...obviously the thermostat turns off at 30 (thats its limit) which is fine....but what is it ok to go down to like overnight and still keep my snake safe and happy, or should i try and keep the temp at 30 all the time in the warm spot?
With our heat wave at the moment the heat source isnt coming on much anyway...is there a problem with the environment exceeding 30 degrees? I have seen the thermometer at 32...but its not the most accurate thermometer! What is too hot.....and should it be cooled? If so how?
Sorry for all the questions....just trying to keep my little guy safe and happy!

first put the snkae back into the enclossure after feeding and then leave for a few days without handling. a night time temp would probably be allright at about 22-25 degrees, and if the enclousre gets to hot due to outside temps then you need to look at cooling the room down with an aircon or the likes.

If you are removing to feed you can handle you python to put it back into its enclosure,
after all if a wild python eats it doesnt sit and do nothing for 24 hours it continues to move around its
natural range, so thats not a problem.
With your enclosure the thermostat will control the heat level, you will get a few degrees drop in temp and it will come on and reheat and switch off again it should be left to do that at this time of year

Perhaps you should think about turning the light off at night.
or if too cold make sure the snake has a good hide to get away from the light if it wants to.

Thanks for the quick replies! Yes I do turn off the light at night to mimic normal day/night environment. Even though the thermostat regulates the heat source turning on...the fluro does emit heat as well...should i consider turning the fluro off also during these 38 degree days? I have air conditioning in the house, but the area the snake is housed relies mainly on fans rather than the A/C.

If it's hot I'd turn the fluoro off. They do emit heat and on a hot day (or any day IMO) are not required. When it gets cooler I'd turn the fluoro back on.
