Are they usually difficult to get strarted feeding?
Any experiences would be appreciated.

Olives love to eat birds so quail are a good way to get them started.

| | | | I had huge probs trying everything with some hatchys I brought early this year.... the thing that worked best was defrosted finches , they went nuts when they frist smelled the finch.
Even tho there captive breed they still seem to love birds as there frist meal. |

Ive found that senting pink rats with day old chickens does the trick 99 percent of the time. |

Well done on breeding them NickM, not many people breed olives every year here as well, as stated TrueBlue does and also TroyK and Den on this site do very very well with olives.

| | | | You could try soaking pinkie or fuzzy rats in chicken juice. Just buy half a kilo (or 1 pound) of chicken necks from the butcher/supermarket and keep the juice that collects at the bottom of the bag/container. Worked a treat for my Olive who was a reluctant feeder. She is OK with rats now, but still feeds much better when they have been soaked.
Before going for live finches (absolutely last option in my opinion), there are many other options you could try. |
