Feeding time

what are peoples experience with feeding there snakes in their cages almost all of the books from the states recomend removing your snakes from their cage to feed them in a modifyed bin or similar container . i started feeding my 4 meter olive in her cage about six months ago and she tagged me on the ankle when i was cleaning which is her first bite attempt in about 9 years.

I feed most of mine in their enclosures and have never had a problem. If I go to pick them up and its not feeding time I make sure they are aware there is not food involved by touching them first approx 1/2 way down their bodies. I have some that are housed together, these are taken out of their enclosure, apart from one, (I have 4 childreni in one enclosure) and I do that randomly, whoever is closest and i can pick up first is the one that is removed. Hope this helps a little

My daughter and I were given what I believe to be reasonable advice, and so far so good. When removing the snake from its enclosure to be handled etc, always use a hook. The snake soon learns that its not dinner time and settles quickly. Anything other than the hook that enters the enclosure becomes associated with food and is fair game.

Hope this makes sense.

feed them out of the enclosure because then they know if they are in a box or continer that that means food not when you pick them up
