Fertility?

I awoke from a drunken sleep this morning to find this going on.

I wasn't planning on breeding these guys this year so i hadn't cooled them and hadn't separated them after last years clutch, i've got them in the noisiest room in the house and with the most traffic. I guess they are into a bit of exhibitionism .

I'm hoping someone with a bit of an idea around fertility will view this thread. I'm curious to know if female snakes are born with a set number of eggs, like people do, or if they keep producing them throughout their life.

I believe unlike mammals that snakes grow their eggs when follicles develop. The number of eggs produced over a life time seems to be dependant upon nutrition .

From the human standpoint, even though we have a set number of eggs, we have WAY more than will ever develop to the point where they can be fertilised. Your snakes should keep making new eggs (like the males keep making new sperm) and breeding for many years. If not really fussed about the eggs, you could let the female incubate.

I keep a pair of Antaresia together in the lounge room and hot all year. They are always mating in spring, but have never had any ovulation or eggs to worry about. Of course, Bredls are different. Let us know if she produces viable eggs.

Incubating's not the problem, it's feeding and caring for hatchies that i find so time consuming. Don't get me wrong i love it, it's is just going to be a bit tough for me to find time for these guys when they hatch.
