RE: .

Hi Steve and jessop! What great pictures! I am so looking forward to getting my first snake and i think i have decided on a Diamond python. Can anyone please help me with info on the pro's and con's of keeping this type of snake? I have read a bit on them and understand they need special light and have some kind of syndrome that can kill them at a young age... is this true? should i consider a different type of snake? would love to hear from personal experience as well as info/thread links! Thanks in advance everyone and i hope i'm not annoying anyone by asking a question that has already been answered here.

Yes you need to keep them at cooler temps (around 28 or less) than other pythons. Also you do require UV lighting. They are usually a really placid snake and start of like "plain jane" as youngsters and end up pretty spectacular as you can see when they are adults. Also some end up black with yellow specks and others black with white specks.

All three shops I spoke to, recommended it as their best first snake due tho their temperament.

I also have a Bredli whos temperament is just the same.

thanks miffy! do you know why they require UV unlike other pythons? I have heard some people say it is not a requirement for diamond pythons and others say it is a must. I would certainly get one to be on the safe side. does it kill certain bacteria or something?
