Today I did the cardinal sin. I think!
I was in a great hurry to leave the house, for some urgent business, and as I had already a mouse defrosted for one of my Diamonds, which shares the enclosure with another, but had missed a feed because of her recent shedding.
I thought I might get away with feeding in the cage, which is something I normal never do.
Ruby (the other one) was sound asleep at the other end of enclosure, (was only fed a couple of days ago)
Well Roxy, very hungry went for the prey in a hurry, but Ruby got the scent at the other end as well and rushed over, I could not stop her, snake hook and all.
The **** hit the fan and it was war.
I had to use water spray (I think a litre or so), well not quite.
Naturally they both wanted the mouse and when she got dislodged from the jaws, the snakes continued with each other, biting and strangling each other.
I finally was able to separate them and after inspecting each careful, not seeing any wounds, I did what I should have done in the first place, and fed one outside.
I know I did the wrong thing, but just never expected it, with Diamonds especially, having been so super docile all the time.
Now they are back together all curled up with each other, best of friends, as if nothing ever happened.
Anyway thought I’ll share that with you guys, and especially the newer ones, that might learn something out of it.
If suppose if feeding in the cage, one mouse for each at the same time would have saved the war as well.
Needless to say I missed my appointment that I was in a hurry for.
Cheers Artie

lol artie, yeah I got caught too with my jungles, I had this ball of 2 pythons with a dead fuzzy somewhere in the middle.
I used the water spray too! They both turned on me then!
never again will i feed 2 snakes in the same enclosure, I too thought one wouldnt be bothered with it.
Cheers

Artie, I remember making the same mistake years ago.
Alcohol is surposed to work well to.
Brandy or whisky they hate it and release pretty quickly, hangover the next day to! LOL!

Neil, you mean straight out of the bottle, undiluted? |

yes, undiluted, a waste I know, but it has worked for friends.
They washed the snake down after it has settled.
In fact I remember seeing my friends hand after a Anaconda latched onto it and wouldn't let go, it was like a pitbull, the whisky soon sorted it out, however, his hand was a bit of a state!

I certainly hope I never get into that situatin again, especially when they are fully grown.
If, on the other hand it would happen and I had the choice,
then I think I rather it be a snake than a pitbull. |
