Great pics, I was lucky enough to hold one of these guys recently they feel incredible, like shark's skin.

Yes they are VERY rough, just like a file!! We tend not to hold them now, just had to hold one when we first got them. They have no strength out of the water, feel very weak.

Yeah I agree A. we only held them for a few seconds above the water. It was only so I could feel what they were like. It was awesome.

Yeah, its a shame they aren't to be held, they feel great!!! I can't believe our ones are eating full grown goldfish at their age. How big is your File snake gillsy??

Unfortunately weren't mine, but they were about 2ft. They aren't full grown goldies but they are large ones .

And after seeing a goldie in their tank, I was suprised at the size they were taking as well.

Good point, but yes they are fairly big goldies compared to the snakes.

do they ever come onto dry land in the wild? or are they strictly aquatic?

Sometime come on the land to mate but 99.9% of the time they are aquatic, no need to setup dry land area for them. They haven't even tried to get of the small gaps in the lids.

Yeah they are pretty small gaps and we have been pretty carefull. Just samll gaps where the power leads go into tank. Lids are secured down.
