First feed

Kiandra has settled in well to her new home and this afternoon I offered her a defrosted fuzzie and she took it the minute I put it up to her mouth. To start with I thought it might have been too big for her, but she made short work of it.

She's such a gentle snake and has never attempted to bite even when I've accidently given her a fright. I thought I had lost her this morning because I opened the door to her enclosure (top opening) and couldn't find her anywhere but then I looked up and saw her curled all around the hinge and it took quite a bit of gentle coaxing to get her down.

Hi Dave,

How old are your childrens pythons? Mine is roughly about 4 months old.

Julie

Hi Jewly, how long have you had Kiandra for? What was she being fed on before? Just pinkies? How many feeds has she had all up? Sorry for all the questions but I am getting my first snake soon and I just thought I would ask. Also, yes another one....has she grown much since you frst got her? I bet you notice a massive difference in her growth now that she is on fuzzies.

I only got her on Friday but I'm totally in love with her already!!! The guy I bought her from said that she was about 4 months old and that she is now 3 times the size she was when she was born. She was being fed on fuzzies before I got her, so I just continued on with those. I've only given her the one feed so far and it was amazing to watch her eat.

What sort of snake are you planning on getting?

This photo isn't the clearest but you can see how big she is. She's 350mm long at the moment.

How big is your snake and do you have a pic? That's also her in my avatar.

Oh yeah, I was so excited to get my first snake and I only had one tiny bit of apprehension but I soon got over that the minute I held her.

I've heard that they can sometimes be hard to feed but she grabbed the mouse the minute I put it up to her mouth.

I'm in WA so my choices are fairly limited. I'm getting a SW Carpet python, followed by a Stimsons python. I have had my vivarium custom built by a guy that does a really good job and really knows his stuff. I am getting a "second story" built to attach to the top of the viv to house the Stimmie later on down the track. I can hardly wait. I get my Carpet hatchling on May 24!!!!!!! Counting down....not long now.
Another question Jewly..........Have you been handling it much? I know keeping it in its enclosure for a couple of weeks to settle in is just going to kill me!!!!!!!

I thought the same thing when I saw how big the fuzzie was, but she soon made short work of it. I was told the other day that a good judge of whether the food is the correct size is if you can see a definate bulge once they've swallowed it. If you can't see that, then it's time to up the size of the food.
