Flouro Cages

Hi,

Do flouro's need cages as well, I can't see how you could cover a 3ft flouro up.

I know my 4ft fish tank ones use to get really hot, yet i can touch the glove of one of those compact ones for standard light bulb fixtures.

I'm planning to have to fixtures in my enclosures one for a compact flouro for white light, and the other a ceramic heater.

Or 1 3ft flouro and a ceramic heater.

Thanks

Yes you can buy covers for them.

Search some of the sites on the banners at the top of the page.

Or you could also opt for a compact fluro.

all i did was cut a whole in the top of my enclosure and put mesh in so the light sits ontop of the mesh on the outsideof the enclosure looks good and is very practical

Great Idea, I keep tossing up if I should make my own enclosure or buy one.

I'm not sure how I can cut the melamine though.

I like the idea of making it to my specifications.

Most places will cut it for size, for you.

You may just need to borrow a jig saw for the air vents.

I built one, would have been just as cheap to buy it, but it was coloured melamine which is $97 per sheet and I needed two sheets. Edging was $50 a roll. Glass $110. Theremostat $168 (got a micoclimate B1ME). lights , heat emitter, light cage, it all ads up.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking,

Especially with those $120 budget ones.

I'm trying to get enough people to get $1000 worht and they'll ship for free.

I think that $120.00 price dos'nt have light fittings and I have people coming up from Syd all the time if you like I can get them to take one back for you to pick up from there?
A cage can be fitted to your UV no prob's and I will look after you on price.

I'm in the middle of building an enclosure atm..i got the melamine for $40.00 a sheet and i needed 1/12 sheets. mine is 1000x1000x600..i got the edging tape for 50c a metre and i'm tossing up to get glass or go with perspex. theres a $30 difference. the fluro is going to be a 2ft single batton fluro for $22.. then it will be $32 for a basic thermostat...and i get the self worth of knowing i did it...go to a place that sell's plywood. they generally sell melamine cheap and cut to size...you have to work out your measurements for them and they do the cutting for you...

Yeah, I agree Blurb but i'm affraid i'll stuff it and waste all the materials.

Which is about a 50% possibility, plus I'm in an apartment so don't have heaps of space.

i also live in an apartment..yeah but that leaves a 50% possibility that you won't..i'm no handy man...it would be pretty hard to stuff it up (touch wood) if you take you time..my next project will be a pine enclosure 1500wx1000dx2000high..with a huge glass front..won't be until get a house with a garage for building room though..

And you left out the cost for them to cut the sheet for you - did you put the stripping on or did the people cutting it do it for you? That costs as well and its not that easy to strip the edges.
And then there is your screws/ nails, vents, the runners for the glass ....Oh yes the light fittings, etc and who wired all the electrics?

in regards to the electrics that's where i'm lucky i have a friend who's and a sparky..your kidding arn't you, it's not hard to do the edging, all you do is hold the edging on the wood then quickly run your iron along it. wait for it to cool down then with a blade go along and trim off the excess... they normally charge $1.50 a cut..but it's just across the road from where i work so they didn't sting me for it...the vent's i found in bunnings for $5.00 each..i'm not going to have a glass sliding front mine is going to be one peice. i will have a side access's.. i got the light fittings from bunnings for $6.00... and the electrical cord for $1.31 a meter..

gillysy, if you want you give me the measurements of what you want, let me know if you want it in pine or melamine, pine is about $3.22 a meter. let me know if you want it all wired up and what you want in it. ie light fittings, fluro tube and i will give you a cost to build it and charge you $20 labour..all you got to do is leave a %50 deposit so i know i won't be getting stuck with and i will build it...then you come to the central coast and pick it up and pay for the rest...hows that sound... pm me..
