I have an 8 month old coastal carpet. I have been feeding him large weanling mice and he seems to be getting them down pretty easy and quickly. I have got some hopper rats that are quite a bit bigger. What is the general rule when upsizing food etc?
Thanks for your help.

Generally a coastal (or any of the Morelia species) will take pinkie rats as hatchlings. If you're feeding mice, sometimes the snake won't jump straight to rats. You might want to try adult mice first. However, if it will, try a fuzzy rat, then move upwards from there, so fuzzy, weanling, hopper, small adult (sub adult), adult, large adult.

In my opinon, if the snake swallows it down easy and fast...go for bigger meal. I don't feed my snakes mice anymore. It was too hard to get the change over from mice to rats later down the track.
Sometimes I experiment if my food sizes. Let's say my snake is comfortable on hopper rats. I'll try a few hopper rats next feed, maybe a weanling rat, then maybe a small subadult rat. Every feed i was an observe and check the outcome. Then I know where I'm at. If it's too big, that's obvious.
