Found Carpet Python

Hi Guys, A friend of mine found a Carpet Python in his yard on the Northern Beaches about 5ft ,very tame and well fed.
Looks like an escapee and I was wondering if anyone has lost one.
Either p m me or contact me on my mobile 0403111911

Cheers Artie

RE: Found Carpet Python

Hi Artie,
Contact Wires and Sydney Wildlife(94134300). Give them the details because sometimes the owners will ring them. You should legally ring them and hand it over but as long as you are doing the right thing in the end.

RE: Found Carpet Python

Hi Pete, did ring both of them,
Wires told my mate to just release it, assuming it was a Diamond, but did not actually send anyone to identify the snake.
Bit weird I thought.
He called me to give him a hand when I discovered it was a carpet and stopped him from letting it go.
Wildlife were very helpful, but had no lost snakes recorded on their books, but can look for some herper that might want it.
Don’t know if that’s the right thing either and will contact NPW tomorrow.

Ps also contacted Pet Search with no luck

RE: Found Carpet Python

I spoke to the them earlier and they told me what you said. Its a bit of a problem really. If someone says carpet python then you should really ask the right questions to ascertain what it is and if your not sure go to the next step which is pass it on to someone else who has a bit more info.
I will take questions at almost any time day or night(ask my wife) and I know that most of the Wires herp people would be only to glad to help. There appears to be a growing population of carpets in Sydney these days. A preety high number really considering how few get reported as lost. I hope people arent just letting them go.

What is it with you folks down under? Do you not use lids on your enclosures?

Just kidding! But it sure seems like you have had quite a few lost & founds lately.

Re: RE: Found Carpet Python

Well we had a happy ending for the Carpet, as it was reunited with its very stoked owner, who did some door knocking and only lived in the next street.

Hey Afro I’m still keeping on eye on you and am never far away, I just don’t show my face that much anymore.
Wouldn’t miss my chuckles with most of your comments for anything.

Cheers Artie
