fish tank? i would say niente... i would first choose the snake you want - based on temper and so on and then build or buy a new enclosure - specifically for reptiles - recycling a little fish tank isn't really wise and you won't save that much money as there are so many other costs involved. Good luck and use the search function at the top of the screen for beginner snakes and so forth...

Possibly a childrens or stimmie - but i subscribe to the theory that you should really give the animal as much space as possible, and you'll find that will be a bit small for heat gradients as well. However, when you first start out with a hatchling you'll only need a small plastic click clack anyway - so you have plenty of time to set up a proper enclosure with heat lights and ventilation.

Why have you made 2 threads lol. An enclosure that size wouldnt be that great for any adult python. An adult stimson gets to an average of about 80-100cm, so even that would be pushing it. Id still like to have an enclosure at least 80cm for one. But thats just my opinion!

Also fish tanks don't really ventilate that well and are easy to escape from and etc etc... good luck sha!

you can easly make a lid to suit a fish tank. In that you could keep a maccie, stimmie or childreni to full size. As for being to small for a heat gradient, i get a good gratient in a 30cm tub.

Yes, for anything under 120cm it should be fine.

Most of the small species will hide most of the time anyway, they don't climb and like to hide during the day,

as for the tank you could just have a heatmat under one third of it and get a gradient that way too.

But if it's something you want to see all the time then perhaps something different would better suit your needs?
