my 6 mth old stimmie is handling well and will happily climb all over anyone but if a finger comes in contact with his head he has a bite. (witch at this age isn't a problem) but should i persist with this to try to break him of this habit or try to keep fingers away from his head.

i'd leave him. Just don't touch his head, there really is no reason under most circumstances that you would need to touch his head.

Just don't touch its head. Most snakes will become agitated when handling/touching the head.
