Golden Crown Snake Rescue

Now that i have a decent camera, i thought i would take some pics of a little Golden Crown that was rescued as the weather was going cool down on the South Coast. Basically it came froma mate of a mate of a mate who found it in his bird aviary. I suspect that the injuries this little guy received was probably from being captured.
His lower part of the body is a little kinked but i think if he was going to croak on me he would've done it by now. I will be looking after him until the warmer weather returns..... (yes I am licensed to do this with a wildlife organisation) then i'll release him. In the meantime here are the only two half good shots i could get of the little blighter and I must admit he is dead cute.

Simone.

Unfortunately the pics don't show the kinks before and after his cloaca. He is actually no longer than 11 cm, I will try and take a pic of him sitting in my hand or near a ruler so you can see just how small he is. I suspect that at the time he was found he was only in this world a few days. He is so very very cute. But your right considering his length etc he is a solid little darling.

Hi Simone

That is a really nice find, such nice colouring and a very unusual head. But without sounding like a dill, as they maybe quite common, but I've never seen or heard of a Golden Crown, so can I ask for a little more information on them, and if they are venomous or not?

Thanks Simone

hi
golden crowned snakes are a nocturnal species, living under well embedded rocks.it feeds on lizards and reptile eggs. the average clutch is about 2 to 15 eggs. and yes they are venomous but not classed as dangerous!!
hoped this helped jagman

Thanks hydro, the little bugger has never really tried to strike although he gave me a little nip the day i got him when he flinched over someone moving next to me. It hit a spot where it was an open wound and i didn't feel a thing. He is very very cute though. I know the bloke thought he was dong the right thing but some time i wish they'd leave them alone. The capture of this little was what did the damage.

Great find! You are lucky to have come across it and be able to care for it. Does anyway know what the sotry is with them in captivity. I have heard of them before but never heard of them being in any collections or ever seen them advertised
