I personally think they are the most spectacular looking snake but I'm sorry the price is absolutely STUPID I would love a pair but last time I knew robbing banks with 12 gauge shotguns was not looked upon nicely by the law or society so I guess I will never know the joy in owning one of these beuaties!!! Howcome america has them at really cheap prices when they are native to us not them and we pay as if they have been smuggled in illegally!!!!!!!! IT SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bet you definately wouldn't pass up the chance to have one though I bet Basketcase! To watch the progress from a tiny bananna yellow hatchling, seeing the first signs of the green and then watching it turn glorious emarald green and also to know how much care and worrying goes into looking after these guys. A case of each to their own I think. Pretty sure that something you think is pretty smick I could quite possibly be quite blase about.
Let us know if you ever get the money (or the desire) for a GTP in a few years.

I have kept GTP's before in the UK, and the reason they are so cheap there is because they are Indonesian locality animals, most are now CB, but alot still get imported from Indonesia as surposed CB or Captive farmed.
Very few people in America or Europe have the Aussie GTP, I know of only two and these were bought originally from Zoo's who had bred them.

The problem here is there isn't enough people breeding them, so the price will remain high for some time to come, because as has been said before many times on here, you can only sell a snake for what people are willing to pay for it, so all that means is, if you want want then you have to come up with the money.

I think over here they would be great investment animals for the foreseable future, especially if you are a breeder of some of the cheaper species and want to give them a go.
If you are a breeder of say Bredli and had two females become gravid and lay a reasonable size clutch each, and most hatched, theres your pair of GTP's, a few years from then, you could be the one making the big money and advancing the size of the rest of your collection.

The choice is yours, think long term!

Words of wisdom for the day! Sorry if I went on a bit.

Neil

i would KILL for one! i luv em, especially the blues one hehe. i heard the blue ones are blue cos they are lacking the yellow pigment in them...if this is so then it would make sense that the only ones that go blue are the red babies (which are not aussie ones). is this true to anyones knowledge?

Zoe,
As far as I am aware it is the females that go blue after having there first clutch of egg's, not all females do go blue, I have seen several Indo locality snakes that displayed this.
There are a few people in the US that have blue males and are trying to establish a true blue GTP, but they always throw out many more that grow up to be normals.
Unfortunately you couldn't pick one of it's offspring out and be sure that it would be blue when older like it's mother.

Neil

maybe the hatchling of a blue mother would have a higher chance of going blue than a hatchie of a green mother?

Does anyone know where I could get a GTP? I live near Brisbane and would prefer something local if possible. Also will be looking for a pair of jungles.
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Col

Col - my mate has a adult breeding pair of brilliant B&G Jungles he'd be willing to split with if someone waved $2000 under his nose. Expensive, but very nice animals. You're going to pay a minimum of 3 times that for a single GTP.

If you're serious about getting some GTP's, send me an email at sxereturn@hotmail.com and I'll talk to some people. There was only a single clutch born this year in Australia I believe...so the price will be very high (probably $8000+).

Roy Pails has Green Tree Pythons listed on his site for $6000.
He is in Victoria though.

I thought they were gone?Roy Pails GTP that is.Could be wrong though.
I would pay good money just for that colour in the juvi's.Beautiful snakes.
Scars me though that much mulla for such a tempermental/finicky snake.
Is it true everything has to be spot on with these guys or a good possibilty of them dying.
Or have I just heard some horror stories.
Also heard you have to squirt them with a water bottle as they do not like to come off their branch.
It's just the little things that matter with guys that ppl often forget to do with their normal pythons.
