Gross python behaviour

My adult Diamond Python did a shed yesterday... And I got quite a surprise when I went to take the skin out, he had managed to quite a large, semi-solid leaving INSIDE the shed skin (presumably as it was shedding) which splashed everywhere when the skin broke as I was picking it up.

I think the look on my face was only balanced by the smug Python expression (I know they don't really have expressions, but I'd swear he was quite proud of himself...)

Has this happened to anyone else? It came as something of a surprise even after 5 years of keeping them!

It happens a lot and if you are ready for it and pick it out carefully it saves on cleaning .

yeah ive heard its quite common for a snake to do that while its shedding... haven't experienced it yet *knock on wood* i got a feeling jasta is saving it just for his shed though.. he hasn't done his business in a lil while though and he kinda looks like hes about too.. and hes also just about to shed..

i would have gagged and probably thrown up if it had happened to me like that though lol

It was actually quite a surprise: I knew other peoples snakes had been known to leave little presents in their sheds, but none of mine ever have!

Gloves it is from now on... I'll be ready for you, poop-machine.

When a python sheds they roll their skin down toward their tail - sometimes the skin gets really really tight and it constricts them.... so they defecate to make it easier to shed their old skin.
