My opinion is I have no reason why GTP are so expensive. From my understanding they are no more difficult to breed then any other python and because responsible python owners only use captive bred pythons (cough, bullshit) then there should be an abundant supply of GTP coming into the market place. It must be cheaper to aquire a wildlife collection licence or what ever licence is available and then catch you own GTP by the bag full!
Waiting for the flame lol

The prices SHOULD be coming down.. Havent seen any evidence of it yet tho.
The word is that prices will drop, but we'll hav to see.
Funny thing is, I could have gotten one three years ago, cheaper than I rekon I could now!
Spuin' I didnt have the $5000 at the time!! (it wasnt a hatchie either!!)
I guess the reason they are sought after is that they are a bright yellow snake which turns bright green, and they are in the hands of a few.

| You can still get them for that price (obviously the clutch doesn't last long). Most people just add a few extra grand as they know people are paying that much at present.
I also believe that there are quite a few pairs attempting to breed this season. I will be monitoring these prices over the next few years as I refuse to pay more than 5k for a green snake. JMO

the reason they are so expensive is a few 10's of years ago a guy named O'shea ( i think ) who worked for the government got them all confenscated from the private herpers, for one reason or another.

$5000 is what they seem to go for if you know the right people. I think that should be the average price this season.

Yeah that seems to have been the average last season, some were less and some were very much more. This season with so many being produced it would be fair to assume the price should be a little lower but who can tell really ?

Supply & demand... There is still a big pent-up demand for GTPs, so I reckon they will stay around the 5-7k mark for a while, but really it depends who you know, and if you have the cash on hand there & then. If you have the money up front, you can often do very well indeed, but if the vendor has to wait, he'll probably sell to someone else who does have the cash in his pocket.

i think they will stay above 5 k for hatchys that have had ten + feeds, for the next 5-6 years.
