Hey,
I know the subject of substrate has been done to death, but i just got one question:
Are dried gum leaves from the backyard really ok to use in an enclosure as substrate....cos i got sum in my enclosure atm and the smell of them is REALLY pungent...i was wondering if boiling and drying them would get rid of the smell, and also whether the smell has a toxic effect on a snake???
Thanx,
jess

Should clear the sinus's...lol
Boiling them should get rid of the eucalyptus oil a small amount, but im not sure its going to get rid of all the oil.

Yeah, but the best way would be just to leave them to dry out completely for a few weeks so the oil can evaporate naturally in the sun and open air.

Personally it sounds a bit time consuming. I would stick with the usual.

if you stick them in a paper bag/box and leave them in the sun for a couple of days, they will dry out and sette down, boiling wont do much for the smell, and may destroy the leaves within a couple of days anyway and that is how i kill my weeds, (steaming/boiling water pours)
Why do you want to use this as subby anyway, seems a bit strange to me..............but im not normal.. so do your own thing
