You could join 'Wires' if you have the time, and do a course with them.
There are also people that run training courses to train you how to handle Venomous snakes, If I find the link I had I will post it up.

Yes, you have to wait the two years (in NSW anyway), even if you do the course.
The way 'Wires' works from what I understand is that you do a Intro course, then you do a 2 day course(which covers all aussie animals), then your qualified to do so much, but no snakes, you have to then go on a specialist reptile course, which I think is 2 days(someone correct me if this is wrong), then you can build up experience alongside other experienced handlers.
I reckon by doing thsi you can then convince the NPWS that you have enough experience to upgrade your licence, along with maybe references from experienced people that you have worked with/become friends with.
It's not going to happen overnight, I reckon a year maybe, because the snake courses only run every so often.
Peterescue will know more I am sure he will comment.
Are you wanting to keep Venomous in a year or two then? or just curious as to what's involved?

I still have to wait to upgrade unless I can show exceptional circumstances. The courses arent on snake handling as such. they are about the quick and safe capture of dangerous reptiles. There is very limited handling.

| Sorry but they are pretty strict on that 2 years. Also those references have to be from keepers who already have Class 2 licenses.

I didn't mean to imply that they would let you get your upgrade early, only that hopefully they would take into account your experience with Wires, and hopefully with references from other experienced wires members that have the appropriate licence, allow you to get the licence after the two years, maybe I should of elaborarated more in the first.

I understand Wildlife Ark tend to be orientated that way and there the requirements are far more stringent. You need to serve a term similar to an apprenticeship and regular training to be reaccredited.

i realy am interested in joining wires.
i like the idea of being able to be able to go and rescue snakes from the end of the spade and relocate them to a more faverable environment.
i am not really interested in keeping elapids as pets , but would love to be able to do my bit in conservation .
i havent been able to get onto the wires web site does anyone have contact details for them? |

is there any humane way of helping these guys out? i really dont like the idea of haveing to hit them over the head. |
