Hatchling Digestion

Hey Guys.. i've fed my mac hatchling two pinkies..
he appears to have no mass in his stomach and i cant seem to see any droppings
Ive had him almost two weeks..
So how long is their digestion pattern? If that makes sense

Cheers

I've found that depending on the size of the snake and the size of the meal, the lump goes away within 2 - 4 days and then they do their business a couple days after that.. But that's just my snakes each snake is different.

I think that the temperatures of the enclosure have alot to do with it too though.

My snakes seem to do their business at differnt times.. Sometimes it's 2 - 3 days after their meal or it can be a week lol.

Poo is basically waste or leftovers. If you are feeding pinkies its not unusual that the animal will miss a poo. Rate of digestion is emperature dependent. The temperature of the snake should be 29 - 30C.At this temp digestion should take 3-5 days so if you wish you can feed every 5-7 days. One of the most usful tools you can have is a temperature gun which takes the temperature of the snake as opposed to the air temperature.

I'm assuming your mac is roughly 8 months old? I have one the same age and he's on pinky rats, he's even had a fuzzy rat, bit of a stretch but he got it down. Anyway, perhaps 2 pinky mice isn't enough food? Maybe they're too small to even leave a lump in your snakes belly?

waiting for your snake to poo befor feeding them again is not a healthy way to feed the animal. just feed him either weekly or fortnightly......what ever tickles your fancy. sometimes the snakes hold onto their crap if they are coming into shed and do it while shedding. two pinkies for an 8month old mac is a small feed, i usually have them on two pinkies at about 2-3 months old.

Temp Gun

Temp guns are a great invention. I have used them in a few places that I have worked (in hospitality). You should be able to purchase them from just about any hospitality supply shop. You should be able to pick on up on ebay for not that much ($50ish) although they can get expensive.

sorry im new to this, i usually just read the posts. I tried to quote ace#74 asking where to get temp guns and how much.
