hatchling enclosure

Hi everyone,
I am about to purchase a darwin carpet python hatchling. I want to keep it one of those plastic aquariums with the clip down lids marked as 'desert dens'. Could somebody please tell the most appropiate size for my new hatchling in this type of enclosure, and also how long will I be able to wait until i move it to its permanant enclosure.
Thanks in advance

I don't know what sizes desert dens come in, I use plastic containers with ventilation holes drilled in them for my hatchies but the good old rule applies still. Length is half the length of your snake - a 40cm snake needs a 20cm cage. Width is half the length and so is height, although these will be standardised in this case, you'll just have to work on the length.

brodie, what a coincidence, i just brought three of them today, for my maccies and darwin carpets. they were $31.50 for a medium sized one or $54 for a large sized one. the medium is plenty big enough for me so this i what i suggest. BTW you can also buy them at top pets and hourseland, but IMO they are not the type that are good for snakes as they are heaps deep.

JMO
cheers

Hey Brodie,
you don't have to go and get the "desert dens" as from what I hear, they're pretty expensive. I know people that use tupperware containers etc of appropriate size with great success. If it were me, I would just get some Large Click Clack containers. They're perfect and something like $19.
Hope this helps,
Sim

I agree with sobrien the desert dens are very costly for what they are.
If I were you just go down to the supermarket or discount store and get a food storage container similar to a tupperware.
When you get home you can drill some holes for ventelation or solder some in.

Also, make sure that the lid is secured well :!: :!: I know it may sound silly now but I've heard of lots of people buying tupperware to house snakes in and they didn't have great lids and the snakes escaped.
Good Luck
