Hatchling pics!! More Jags for you Aussies...

Hatching season is sooooo fun.

A few weeks ago a member here posted a US Jag clutch, as some of you may remember. It got a lot of replies for a few days....the whole jag debate...how much fun.

Anyway, this is my second clutch of the season. The sire was the same jaguar male posted below, and the dam was a very nice coastal that comes from a red/hypo line, however way you look at it. Some of the Jags(not posted) are very orangish and red, as well as a few siblings. Here are a few pics I was able to pull off before the little buggers slid back into those slimy eggs. This was my first artificial incubation clutch, and they aren't too pretty, but it looks like I will have 100% hatch. The worst eggs have already pipped, so now we're just waiting for the rest. ENJOY!!

Hatchies!!

Beautiful Matt, don't forget the photo's when they get out of the eggs :-)

Minty, they are Jags (coastals) not Jungles.

LOL! Don't feel dumb. I can see how the jaguar male might appear as a jungle type, although he's a coastal. The jaguar trait has a tendency to turn things yellow, cream, or orange.

Well, it depends on who you want to believe. It originated in Europe from seemingly normal adult coastals. Whether they were pure coastals is debateable, but by the time we recieved them in the US, and especially my stock, they would have to be no less than 88% pure because I can trace mine back through at least 3 generations of coastal breedings from the original founding animal. Some speculate through sources still unknown that the original male was an intergrade with a new guinea or west papuan animal, but there isn't enough proof to convince me, and considering every jaguar I have seen has surpassed 7' I would doubt that to be the case, as WP carpets are generally smaller.

Do some research on-line and you can dig up more info. The founder was jan Eric, and his website, along with the history, should be up soon.
