I'm using a 25W heatcord on my diamond's tank without a thermostat and it keeps her temperature at about 30. And I have a 50W heatcord across a length of timber making 3 strands to heat 2 plastic tubs with my stimsons. That one is on a thermostat. Both work fine, although I do notice the thermostats tend to be out by 5degs.

I routered a groove into MDF, placed the heat cord in the groove and then place tiles on top. Then I put the tubs on top of that.

i just taped a few coils of 15w heat cord onto a surface where my clickclack sit and that keeps heat up to 30 in the hot end. it works fine and heats two different enclosures to the exact same heat.

What wattage is it?
The closer you put the rungs of cord to each other the stronger the heat.
Don't let the cord overlap though. A 15 watter should do the job fine, depending where the set up is located.

I'm in Melb and an 80W cord with three runs about 5cm apart gets up to the right temp with a thermostat but there isn't a lot left in reserve, however I'm heating large tubs and the room is rather cold.

How far appart do you run the cord, what watts do you use and what temps do you get. Cheers in advance Mark.

well i'm in Brisbane so it doesn't get overly cold here. I'm just using a 15watt heat cord running up and back on itself under and up one side of the plastic tub. The thermometer stuck to the side of the click clack is sitting between 30°C and 32°C. The cool end is just room temperature.

bel | Just a thought, wouldn't the tape melt from being in constant contact with the heat cord? Just wanting to know as I can't decide between a heat cord and heat mat for a click clack |

M.punja, temps are controlled by the cheapo black box thermostats sold by herpshop. The cord is unknown wattage as I have heaps of them all URS brand bought from Matt at Animal Attraction. I have not had any problems with this setup and Ive had it setup like this for a number of years for various carpets aswell as maccys, childrens and stimmys. Here are some pics

Cheers. Thanks Brendan, I'll have to get myself into gear now and get that rack going. The collection is getting bigger every weekend and I'm running out of room in my house.

The cord is unknown wattage
The wattage should be marked on the black part of the cord just behind the plug.
15w is 4m, 25w is .4.3m, 50w is 6m and 80w is 9m long...
Jamie.
