| | | Another trick that I use is not to handle the globe itself directly with your hands. Any oil on your hands passed onto the globe can contribute to blowing. I've found since handling and screwing the globe in with a tea towel or something similar, my globes no longer blow.
This particular technique is also used when inserting new head light globes into your car. Any mechanics out there will confirm this. Insert it with your hands and not even 5 minutes later...Boom, insert with a towel...no probs mate
Hope this helps...

You only do it once.. |

I got a 2 year warranty so i am happy with that. I am gonna go back tomorrow and exchange it for a 150W. I should have got it in the first place. I have to also buy an beyonet - screw in adaptor. woot. With a 2 year warranty, i cant go wrong. This has defently fixed my problem. |

I got a refund, but would not buy infrared bayonets again. I found they are hard to get, and obviously don't last. I use "party lights" in teh one encl. I have bayonet type fittings and have changed every other encl over to ceramic ES fittings. You can buy them at herpshop. You may be supposed to get an electrician to install them but its not really rocket science to do it yourself.

I did find they were always blowing when I used a too higher wattage for the socket...but doesn't look like this is your problem.

A good dimming stat with everything else working well there is no reason you won't get a good life from a bulb.
in any case with an on/off stat you are going to shorten the bulbs life. One thing to remember, the higher the wattage, the more likely it is the bulb will blow. Just because your using a stat don't go a large watt bulb and have it turned down, keep the wattage as low as possible. You only need a basking SPOT, not a hot box. Provide a basking shelf or something to climb on to get the snake closer to the heat source and your bulb hardly has to work. |

It turned out the light fitting we had bought had two wires just close enough to ocassioanly touch and blow the bulb. Just check the fitting properly or get someone to check it incase it is that and not the bulb. |

i got 10 a while ago and they lasted between 1 day and 2 weeks, the next lot i got have been lasting 3-6 months each,..same fittings, same light cycle etc,...never used a dimmer of thermostat.
