Heat mats

Ok I'm sure this has probably come up somewhere before but I have got bucklys of finding it so...
my tank is 60cmx30x40 and it is not heating right.
I already have a ceramic globe, but I am buggered If i know what wattage it is. It only gets to about 20 degrees(the tank)
I was told that the heat mat will not heat all of the tank, just the floor. Is this ok for a MD?
Also what size mat should I be getting? One that covers about 2thirds of the tank? And should I be getting a bigger/2nd heat globe as well
There are some pics of my tank http://www.aussiepythons.com/index.p...ic&t=22329 but it is only half finished as I have to find time between exams to work on it.
Thanx everyone

What type of globe fitting are you using in the enclosure?

RE: Heat mats

Id bump the wattage up or atleast find out what wattage it is?
And mabey a little reasearch on digestion and so on will help you......
The heat matt only needs to cover 1/3 to half the tank Max!!!!
Good luck!!!

RE: Heat mats

Serpant_Lady: There is no need to have the entire enclosure at a high temperature just as long as there is a basking spot under the light avaliable for the snake it will be fine.

RE: Heat mats

Do u have a thermostat? Up the wattage of the ceramic and get your self a thermostat. For a ceramic a microclimate b1 thermostat would be fine they are a dimming thermostat u can get them at www.ultimatereptiles.com.au and there prices are good.
Do that and then look in to heat mats but I don’t think u will need it all u need is a hot spot at one end of the cage between 28 and 30 degrease.
Put a thermostat in the middle of the cage that way you will get a gradient temp (hot one end and cool the other)

RE: Heat mats

Put your hand under the light in the enclosure where the snake might sit to bask is it warm-hot?

RE: Heat mats

SL imagine the heat globe is pumping out hot air. The Thermostat (bi microclimate brand) is like a tap which determines how much hot air to pump out. The probe measures the temerature. If its too cold the thermostat(tap) turns on moreto allow more hot air to heat up the temperature. If its too hot the tap (thermostat turns down to reduce the hot air.
