RE: help...

Maybe I just think this way, but I will never understand how any breeder can justify selling a hatchie snake that is not eating! As far as I am concerned they should be shot! We had a friend who bought a pair of BHP hatchlings that had not eaten and he was left floundering trying to get these pair to eat. He went through so much stress and sleepless nights, thank god after perseverance the are healthy wonderful yearlings now. That is just my point of view!

RE: help...

I couldnt agree with you more. this was one of my posts from another site.

"to tell you the truth Im not 100% sure of the person I bought her from. he sold a whole heap of his hatchlings to parents as kids for chrissie presents. when I told him of my uneasiness with purchasing a non-eating animal, he pretty much said if I didnt buy it someone else would. my inexperience made me buy. The thing is if i've put in so much effort as someone that is really into their herps with no luck, Im just wondering the fate of the others that went as kids pressies. maybe mine is just a particularly fussy one but Ive heard (later) stimmies are quite hard to get feeding."

Ive been asked who he is (no one here) but Im not willing to mention any names as its partly my fault anyway. It has caused many a sleepless night let me tell you.

RE: help...

Gerry firstly i must warn you about those damn pinky pumps - they're crap. Dont use one. They have a large rim around the very tip of the nozzle that easily knocks out the teeth of young snakes. They are very messy to use and the majority of the pinky gets jammed within the pump. Your snake WILL feed when it is happy with the way its being kept and isnt stressed. How are you heating the click- clack ? Is the air within it heated or is it just sitting on a warm surface ? Is it well ventilated or is their a build up of stagnant air? Is it dry within its click-clack or damp from a tipped over water bowl ? Remember a happy snake is a feeding snake and the problem may not be with the snake itself, but with how the snake is being kept. Hatchlings feel safer under a sheet of newspaper than sitting on BC cat litter. I have found that live pinks work well with stubborn babies, as will the scent of skink on a pink.

RE: help...

the click-clack in on a heat mat. The temp at the top of the click-clack on the hot side is abt 30 degrees (altho Im upping it abit as we speak). no spilt water. Im just using paper towels on the ground which she does like to go under every now and then. she also has a small hide box (half a band-aid box). also plenty of air holes so the air shouldnt be too stagnant in there. am going to try a live pinkie this weekend with fay and see how we go. and yep also tried scenting..
