My son is eight, after much begging I have gotten the licence and we are now the "proud" owners of a hatchling Eastern Small Blotched Python. We now have a problem - my son lacks the confidence to handle the snake on his own and I am not the best person to be helping - being terrified myself.
I need someone, who has patience with snakes and interested kids, that we can go and visit for an hour, for a couple of Saturdays or Sundays in a row, so we can build up our confidence in handling our new pet.....to cut down on stress for everybody!
Is there a society that meets in Sydney south each weekend or is there any one out there, still that nice, that they would help us?

I see you're at Sefton. I'm at Liverpool. You're welcome to come round and let your son meet my kids (12 and 8 ). They can show him how easy it is. I have plenty of snakes and Lizards here to play with.
Cheers, Greg.

Really commendable of you! Not too many people who are willing to forgo their own fears to help with an others fascination of these animals. If I was living there I would gladly help out. You won’t have any problems finding someone from here to help you. Good Luck
ps - gee that was quick

Just email me fatboy@optusnet.com.au and we can arrange something. Don't use the PM function here cause it doesn't work for me for some reason.
Cheers, Greg.

I have been round to Greg's place with my kids and they really loved it. We were made to feel welcome. My daughter was so relaxed she pee'd on their floor. That was a while ago so his snakes will be hungry again by now. I know his offer is sincere tatham so take him up on it.

If your ever out Bathurst way for a sunday drive or the weekend please feel free to contact me. I have a very friendly olive python and a not so friendly bredli. I have mates bring their kids over a fare bit. Anyway the offer is there and i am always happy to meet another person with a fascination for snakes.

"I'll tell you 'Tatham', what say to others with a similar problem. Just reach in, in one smooth motion and pick it up, whats the worst it can do?, bite you?, its non-venomous, carnt hurt you, your dog or cat would do far more damage. Just dont panic, and pull your hand in and out, they pick up on it and will play on it, by looking nasty and stricking etc. Remember the elemient of supprise, reach in and pick it up, you'll find once you do, it really wasn't that bad.........go-on give it ago"................

that's a very good point.. and one that even a few keepers I know don't realise! A bit of confidence picking it up goes a long way.. one of my bigger bredli is, to be honest, pretty scary the way she looks at you lol, and with her history of biting. But confidence when getting her out of the cage (almost) always works
