| | | HELP, heating my childrens enclosure Hi guys I am picking up my juvenile spotted childrens up next week-my first snake. I have bought a terrarium but am somewhat unsure what the best way is to establish my heat gradient. I have bought a heat chord which I will use to heat my snakes container before its old enough to go into its 2 foot enclosure. Once in the enclosure is it sufficient to continue using the chord (under a clay tile, coupled to a thermostat) or do I need a heat lamp or both? would the snake require exposure to UVA/B light (as discussed previously) and thus, a light source or is this only required for diamonds?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!
thanks |

If I were you , I would buy a heat mat and put it under one end of the tank and have that as your heating, I have heatmats for mine, that's all I use, a hide on the mat and one on the cool end, easy and works, they don't need UV lighting, tho there are differing opinions on that matter and you may hear two sides of this.
I have both my childreni and macci set up this way and they seem to be very happy moving around as they like.

| | | | cheers guys,
no working digital camera atm. I'l move my python Kaa into a 2 footer pine terrarium with glass front (hinged door at the top). it has an air vent on the left side and thats it. I will drill holes to accommodate a light fitting on the other side if I use 1 and have the heat element at the bottom on the same side. I mite try and make a heat mat/style thing using the chord, placing it under a tile or pot plate- for lighting I mite use something like a halogen that doesnt generate much heat which I can turn off and on at discretion in order to view her.
having a hide in the cold and warm part seems like a good idea.
ps. I think i need to worry more about cooling the joint during summer as it gets rather hot--ive read some stuff about the 12V computer fans.... |

Someone on here might know if they generate alot of heat or not... Hope everything goes well... | | |
