Hey all..
Well i have been wondering about hibernation for my python's, i have a 5year old Female Jungle , and a 4year old Diamond.
when or should i commence hibernation for these snakes?.. and if so, how do i go about doing it.. is it just a case of cutting the heat off and putting a curtain over their cage?... do they HAVE to hibernate? or because they are getting heat, i can just continue with their regular routine.. as obviously in the bush the hibernate due to the cold weather, but obviously i play mother nature in the tank.. so basically, do i force a hibernation or not?.. and what are the steps to doing so...
how is the snake going to hibernate when it wont be as cold as the outside, as obviously my home is heated so even with her heating off.. it's still not going to reach freezing temps in her cage.. and its not viable to move the enclosures to a non-heated room..
so if someone can explain to me the process, and the pro's and cons and whether i should do it or not.. that would be great
thanks!~

Neither species hibernate in the true sense of the word...and you certainly don't want "freezing temps".
Where you are in Aus will no doubt effect how cold your snake room...or house, gets at night.
Depending on these factors, you could just switch off the heat at night (with diamonds) or you could reduce heat at night (with jungle).
If you arent going to breed the animals, then i would suggest it is only the DP that would possibly benefit from a cooling period.
Add some more info to your question, and you may get a more specific answer.
