i have an 18 month old s/w carpet python and when i handle him he makes a hissing/whistling sound out of his nose, his nose is clear no discharge, hes eating normally, the temps are fine and he appears healthy.
but he only does it when hes being handled, when hes in his enclosure he doesnt do it and when hes on my computer desk he doesnt do it
i dont think hes stressed because he doesnt try and get away and hes not aggressive
does anyone have any ideas why he might be doing this
thanks in advance

Contrary to popular belief, snakes are not overly enamored with being handled. Hence the hissing Sid.

Mine hiss to warn me that they're capable of biting, which sometimes does lead to getting bitten.

hmmm, i generally only beleive snakes should be handled when needed, not just for the "fun" of it. but each to there own. one of my female jungles gives out a few hisses as i hook her out , then once i have her, she stops. i just think its the snakes way of saying enough is enough, or when they get peeved off at something.
imagine getting grabbed at and handled all the time when u didnt want to, that would get annoying, thats why i keep handling to a bare minimun, keeps them less stressed out.
