Just wondering if anyone here keeps pairs of spotted pythons together in the one enclosure? or is it always best to keep them seperate until breeding time?
Thanks

you can keep them together if you like, but you would want them to be roughly the same size to reduce the risk of complications. but you have better breeding responses from males when they are housed seperatly. if you dont mind them possibly not breeding then it would be fine as long as there needs are me, eg: two seperate hides, feed seperatly, ensure the enclosure is always clean etc.........
by the way this topic may get some different opinions, as some people may say you can and some will say you cant at, either way every one is right in there opinions.

hi,
like jason said above, but in my opinion it won't affect their breeding, i know a few members on here that keep them together all the time and they breed every year, unless there is something wrong with either snake nature should take it's course,
i'll be keeping my childrens, stimmy's and maccies together in pairs and trio's all the time next year, i'm just waiting for them all to be adults,
cheers,
steve.........

keeping more than 1 snake in a cage is a pain in the butt, once they are yearling they should be ok together. mine breed every year being housed together. just dont put to male macs together thay fight.

I've kept my maccies together in an enclosure all year round and never had any problems breeding them. The only problem you will have is feeding and you should seperate them for that.

900x450x450 is plenty. I keep mine in a plastic tub/draw system.

I have keep my two maccies together from the day i got them as hatchies and have had no problems except the occasional time when the female finished eating before the male..... They breed this year 10 eggs and 10 hatched and they are back together again now. But at feed time they get seperated because now there not so small...and she is always hungry.Inclosure is 400x400x600 high with heat tape on the top shelf.

TruBlue,
What do you class as juveniles? I currently have a Male stimsons that is about 15 months old, and am trying to find a female of around the same age/size, although not having much luck. After the normal quartine period, I am tossing up whether to put them together or not, because I have heard that young ones can eat each other. At this age, providing they are of a similar size would they be okay to go together?
If I cannot find one of this age, I will probably get a hatchling, and not put them together for a few years until they are around the same size.

Mangles, Its worse for the first few months as hatches, once they are a year or so old its not so bad. But Its still better to house everything seperate as if one gets sick 9 times out of 10 so will the other.

So would say a 600x600x600 be fine for a pair of spotteds? would a 40w or 60w bulb be ok?
