Just have a few questions, now I have my children's python eating happily (born Mar 2006) and presently 32cm, approximately 15g, what would be an appropriate feeding schedule for him/her.
I am presently feeding every 3 to 4 days as I think it needs some catching up on the food and is taking it quite readily, (only one newborn defrosted pinkie). Would this be considered too much or adequate at present?
Also is the size and measurements above seem right for that age? It has definitely grown a bit and become extremely active in the last few weeks as it was really really small and inactive when I first got it as it wasn't eating.
Any comments or suggestions about the feeding appreciated.
Thank you

hard to say, do you have any pics of the snake next to a 30cm ruler. i know you gave the length but its easier to see. my 9month old is easily as round as a five cent coin and about 60cm, eating 2 pinkie rats a week. at 30cm they could easily be taking 1 maby even 2 fuzzy mice and i would back it off to feeding every 7 days.

I would feed it one newly born pink rat every 4-14 days.

Here is a photo just taken in a lid, together with a 5 cent piece and a ruler.
He is really small but bigger now than when I first got him when I got him a few weeks ago he had only eaten (until I got him) 2 skinks and one live pinky since March so I think that was pretty much on the brink of starvation?
Luckily I have gotten him to eat through perseverance and the great help and tips of the people from this site. I still think he/she has a bit to go but seems to be on the road to recovery "so to speak", I just don't want to go "overboard" if that's possible at this stage.
Hope I am making sense.

Just did an exact weight measurement on him/her and my approximate guess was close, he came in at 14g. So he's pretty small I am assuming still.

i think he looks fine, proportionate and fine. I am comparing him to my bredli though, who has similar proportions although he is a little older.

looks nice and healthy although very small imo, put him up to a fuzzy evry 5-7 days and see how it takes them. if it takes them fine after about 5-8 weeks should be large enough to take two and from there go to pinkie rats, the snake needs good size food items to get enough out of them for good growth, either way the snake looks good and it isnt bad that he is growing slow many keepers like to let the animals grow slower. nice looking snake to by the way.

Thanks for great comments.
I think I am just worried I was going to feed it too much as the little dude was sooo small when I got him and wouldn't eat, know he's taking food readily I am worried I might be pushing it too far.
I know it's still early and I have to give him/her time, but this gives me reassurance that everything is going okay.
Cheers
Tracy

Your doing just fine, and your little bubby seems to be doing fine thanks to your persistance and patience with her. She/he's beautiful. All the advice here is good, up the food size and drop feeding down to once a week. if in doubt, only feed after he's poo'd. Congrats and well done on getting your little bub eating, should be all smooth sailing from now on

Having seen the snake I can say it is is/was VERY small, what you are doing now is fine. As it is only eating a single pink mouse every 3 to 4 days is just right. It will only be a few weeks until it can take pink rats and then it should catch up to where it should be with no problem.
I'm glad it's eating well now.
