If you hold the rat/mouse in your hand (maybe use a glove if your worried) and leave only the very tip of its snout sticking out of your hand. Present it to the snake snout first and when its strikes it should get it right over the snout. Then slowly remove your hand while wriggling it slightly so it throws some good coils around it.
It worked 9 times out of 10 for me, now the snake eats snout first all the time no matter how the food is presented. And it never struck my hand in all the times I did it which surprised me.

Hand feeding is a bad idea if you dont want to get feeding responces on your hand further down the track. |  | |
