G'day,
I am just about to purchase my first snake, a Diamond Python. I have read that they need to be hybernated every year, however I have had advice from snake retailers that say hybernation is not necessary unless I intend to breed from it. Is this true??

No that's not true, not for diamonds anyway. Most diamond breeders keep hatchlings warm during their first winter and from then on they start to cool them each winter. Cooling a diamond over winter is beneficial for the longterm health of the animal. After all, they are a cold weather python.

No mainland snakes hibernate, brumation is a more accurate term as most stay active to some extent and continue to drink. Hibernation involves the animal becoming torpid and neither feeding or drinking.

Thanks Serpenttongue and Boa for your replies. Would you be able to send me any info on caring for Diamonds and related to their hybernation?
Much appreciated, Kishla
