Hygiene protocol for snakes

The NSW DEC 2004 publication "Hygiene protocol for the control of disease in captive snakes" is available for download from:

RE: Hygiene protocol for snakes

I hate to say it, but while all that stuff is good practice, I cannot see everyone going to lengths described. I mean it would be easy for someone with 2 or 3 snakes to take such drastic cleaning and hygenic measures, but someone with 10, 50 or literally hundreds of animals, they are simply not going to have time for it. Just my opinion.

Cheers.

RE: Hygiene protocol for snakes

With new arrivals I do, during the quarantine phase.

I am rather more pedantic than that in the 'sick' room. With taps, sinks, doorknobs, light switches etc being disinfected upon entry and exit. I disinfect myself when exiting, bag my clothes to be washed and shower immediately.

Yes, I have recently been described as being 'anal' about it.

Crikey ! has anyone installed airlocks yet ?
Im pretty thourough with hygene but must admit mulching discarded euclyptus mulch substrate in my garden. Document sounds rather paranoid, I wonder what they are not telling us?

Don't think I haven't thought of it.

However, the sick room is downstairs and out the back and we don't have fences. Can't help the snakes if I am locked up for indecent exposure...

Too risky if you're a guy - snakes might mistake something for a giant pinkie.......
