Hypomelanistic (sp)

Means lack of melan in the animal producing reds and oranges.

Hypomelanism is a deficiency in melanin (reduced levels of black pigment) - So a hypo snake has significantly less dark colouration than a 'standard' snake...

This does not necessarily mean NO dark colouration, merely a reduced level...

Hypomelanism is a co-dominant genetic trait - snakes don't BECOME Hypo they are born that way or not...

hypo means lacking of black pigment, but can have none to a little bit of black colouring. and like chris said that they are a lighter colour then normal.

Is it a hetero or homozygous form then?

While this thread is up, ill take the chance to ask my question....
Can a hypo come from 2 normal snakes, or does a hypo snake have to be used with mating?
Thanks
Bill.

its a genetic trait and 1 or more of the animals needs to carry it, not nescessarly show it but carry it.
