Hypomelanistic Coastal Carpet Python

Dropped into URS today and saw their yearling Hypomelanistic Coastals. I'm not normally into color mutations but ... WOW.

The hatchlings still look like red coastals but the yearlings are a lemon color.

Fuscus,
How many adult 'hypo' carpets did you see there?A good percentage of coastal carpets hatch out with very little or no black pigment, and do look quite different, but as they reach adult hood they simply aquire their normal colouration. 'Hypo' coastals have been pedled for a few years now and gone for quite a bit of money and I know a few people who have wound up being very dissapointed.
In saying that true hyopmelanistic carpets could well exist but if buying one of those babies I'd definately ask to see the parents first.
Regards,
Splitmore

There were two yearling hypos that I saw, I didn't see the adults. They had a number of hatchlings that they were selling as hypos but you couldn't tell if they were actually hypo. There appears to be a number of breeders that supply URS so the adults could be kept offsite. The inpression of URS that I got was that they are very competent and are not after the quick buck, but is is still buyer beware.

In 1998 or 1999 I did see a adult wild python at springbrook that I now think was a mildly hypo coastal.
It was on one of the last bushwalks I did proir to buying my first digital camera so I can't support my statement.

The hatchlings were darker than that, the are not selling light colored hatchlings as hypos.
Did you have a look at this photo? Its of a yearling.

Hi stockeh,
my female looked like that when i got her except she only had a few specks of black on her and now she looks like yours now except slighty lighter. I didnt get her as a hypo though (although I was secretly hoping she would stay the colour that she was) and I saw her mother and she was an extremly dark girl.
