hi everybody
guess what happened to me tonight, i seperated my coastals the other day and
decided to change some pairs around tonight, i put our big coastal male ( rusty) in with our female ( chole ) , i had seen chole mating with my other male (randy) last year and this year but she didn't lay last year so i wanted to put rusty with her to make sure she was gravid, well did i get a shock, rusty and chole started fighting, and i mean fighting or combating, sorry no pics as i was alone and had to seperate 2 x 7 foot angry coastals, mum was home but had a headace, when i opened up their cage they both came out and i ended up with the 2 of them all over me, lol, i had one grabed in each hand and trying to unwind them, it wasn't very funny at the time, i ended up getting them apart and back into their cages, i then had to work out what happened, why didn't chloe attack randy in the last 2 seasons and had mated with him? i can also remember seeing chole and babe(other female) mating but put it down to 4 play before randy did his job, lol, i had randy, chole and babe together in the one cage, i then remember that randy refused a feed the other day, not like him to turn down a feed, well guess what, i'd say by the look of randys swollen belly that randy is a female, i can remember last year before chole and randy mated that chole was the one doing the chasing and i always said that chole raped randy, lol, now i know why chole didn't lay, she is a male, and randy was only 18 months old so most likely wasn't old enough to get gravid, and randy has been the only male? that has been with chole, what are the chances of this happening,
i still can't believe that chole is a male and randy is a female, lol, i'm in shock,
the upside is that we still have the same amount of males and females and the fact that i'm pretty certain that randy is gravid, lol,
now can you beat that one, lol...............

hi rennie,
we have 3 males and 6 females at the moment, we have 5 females this year that have been with the 3 males, the other one will be next year, we also have 5 hatchlings ( 1 male and 4 females ) from last season that will be added to our breeders in the next couple years,
what really upset me was randy has a very nice zig zag strip down his/her back and i was hoping to us him/her over a couple of my females to see what he would produce, no chance of that now if he is a she, lol,

At least you still have a pair. Nothing worse than having what you believe to be a female and it turns out to be male.

thanks afro, i can tell you it wasn't easy to get them apart without recieving a love bite or 2, pmsl........
both boys are recovering ok, not sure about my aunty who had to watch me in case i lost the fight
she doesn't like snakes, lol, but at least she was there to run and get help if the seperation went wrong, pmsl..............

I got a bluey which the seller and I both thought was a male and it just so happened that she had babies after about a month in my care
