I got my coastal yesterday. He is about 55 cm long and has really great colours. He has Only bitten me 6 times and my mum twice.
Anyway i was wondering if anyone with coastals has any that bite at every opportunity, even trying to bite me as i walk past the cage. I thought that they were pretty placid snakes.
I guess i still love him and she likes "kissing " me.

Hi Alexahder,
Ive found them to be the most placid snakes, even wild ones.
I had one hatchling though that sounds very similar to yours and he never settled.
Regurlarly handle him is your best option - before he gets to 8 foot anyway!
Cheers

Yeah, hatchies can be a bit snappy cos everything is a threat to them. The more you handle the little bugga, (once he has settled in), the more likely it is that he will become moe confident and placid Good luck and congrats, Coastals are a great snake |

AHHHHHH! Finally someone is turning over to the right side, coastals rule supreme, IMO though i guess most have figured that out by now, mine have all had a tendancy to have a nip when they were juvies, but as long as you leave em alone to settle in (ie two weeks or so), then begin handling on a regular basis, he/she should tame down. but as someone said, no guarantees it will tame down :S.
ps : before afric tells you about my head bite again, i will.....dont handle rats then open the door to you snake cage and sit eye level with the snake...they bite ya on the forehead |

lol, a bit off topic but, my dads freind had a 7 ft diamond, and he pulled her out and put her on my shoulders, he then left the room, i went to stroke the diamond and it whipped around and snapped its mouth open the shut about 2 cm away from my face, i stood dead still until the guy came back in. Very scarey , it was my first time holding a large snake so i wonder why i didnt get a fear of them.
sorry bout it but i have to share it hehehe

So Steve how bad was the bite? And did your snake prefer your taste to that of the rats?

Coastals? YAAAWWWWNNN. Coastals are boring. Almost as boring as Diamonds. They're totally overrated. |
