| | | I had a visitor last night...
This little fella turned up on my bathroom window sill last night, he was about 60cm long and doesn't seem to match photos of other pythons, I'm located near Gin Gin, Qld and was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of python he is? I have lived here about 12 months, and hardly seen a snake, until yesterday that is. Two green tree snakes, a small carpet and a very large (3.5 m) carpet later, I went to the loo and met the little fella in the photo. Obviusly there is a few pythons around. Any reason they might suddenly get active? any info would be appreciated.

Looks like a young Proserpine Carpet Python. Whereabouts is Gin Gin mate? The snakes are more active now due to the warm weather. They're trying to find as much food as possible before the cooler weather comes back.

Now you've seen 3 carpets.
Hypo means hypomelanistic, lacking melanin (dark colouring).
They would be more active at the moment as it is summer, that one there looks like a little hatchling, I'd guess no more than a few of months old.
Edit: Mr Bredli's right, its well past breeding season so they'd be fattening up for winter

Ok, a hatchling, yes he was very cute, and a bit shy of all the attention. Would all carpets about this size be hatchlings, the one I saw at the shed was a very boldly marked black and white colouration and about the same size???
