Pythons don't need uv light(except diamonds) but it can't hurt their color.
It does bring color out in dragons but i can't say i've seen it affect color in the pythons i've kept outdoors.

like that pic.

thats somthing we have never really tryed nicole..how ever we have seen veriations in olive colours in differant areas but havent really seen enough to say weather they are all of that colour in that area. all ours are out side on a permanant basis so it dosent seem to be a u.v thing with the green female..she has just always been that colour.

just about any python that has strong visual colour do benifit from time in the sun..jungles especally. we have an out door rotation cage that jungles get rotated in for a mounth or so at a time.. this does brighten the yellow with animals that like to bask. however if you have a hide in there with a shy animal and he dosent bask it dosent make alot of differance.
cheers paul.

Yeah, I know they are mostly brown, my comment was a bit of sarcasm at the name. Would be a bit like if the Green tree snake was brown really.... Now that I've seen the pic of Nicoles one and heard that there is green ones out there, I understand the name but always thought it a bit silly previously. UV would only bring out the colours that are there, not actually change the colouring I think. I guess maybe if an olive had a slight greenish tinge, it might make it greener.

Mine have turned slightly more brown as they get older. They used to be a little more greenish. Olive is a pretty accurate description of their color Magpie. Even the brownish ones have like a greenish tint to them. Little hard to describe, and most pictures don't do them justice. But they're like a, you know, a greenish brown. Olive.

Check out this link. I'd say my olives are pretty close to the olive color in the chart in natural sunlight. Olives of the edible variety are much lighter green than the color olive. I'd say that olives are misnamed, not the snakes.

I rekon you are right alamron, I think I have even read that somewhere............... But I guess a lot of Australian Snakes are misnamed. Generally not the names fault, but people not fully understanding what the name implys, a good example would be the childrens python.

Also most of the wild olive pics I have seen from up here are all more brown then green, but a friend recently found a 2m version of Nicoles
