Incubating with water?

Hey all

Just wanted to get people's opinions on using water to incubate eggs instead of the traditional way of using vermiculite?

Also if anyone has used the water method, could you please explain the set-up you used, as I'm interested in trying this myself this season.

Thanks.

water water water

with my spottie eggs l use about a 9 litre container l bought in woolies,it has a ventilated, elevated shelf in it that is about 6ml off the base l then elevate it up another20mm by using sectioned 30mm plastic tube, when the time comes l put 6mm of barely warm water in there and the eggs on the platform above....never had a problem.....my personal gripe with vermiculite is ...you don,t know where or how long its been sitting...by the way the water l use l has been previously boiled....cheers solar 17 [baden]

Thanks for that info solar.

I've read a few other articles saying that the water method is now the new way of incubating for the future and most are having a 100% success rate.

I guess compared to 100's of other breeders you constantly hear of losing eggs through too much/too little water mix, mould etc, etc and as you mentioned how long vermiculite has been sitting around for, also the mess that it makes, makes the sound of using water the way to go!

Solar, if at all possible I'd really love to see some pics of your set-up you have using water? Doesn't have to be the incubator itself or anything, only a few pics of what you previously mentioned above.

Thanks again for your input.

Wow mate, that is simple.

Just one more question...when covering the top of the plastic container, do you use a plastic lid, or glass?

Thanks for sharing, really appreciate it.

Water Incubation

l use the normal lid, just sat firmly on top not even forcing it down for a 100% plus seal and to answer the other question my brother does accies the same way...l do remove the lid every 2-3 days and remove excess condensation...but the sealing with lunch-rap l and a few others have proved beyond doubt is just a hand me down wives tale..but when you think about that method of sealing what critter in the wild has access to lunch wrap where as the water immitates her urinating on the eggs to raise the humidity
