i've been talking to a guy who sells incubators, my thoughts were that a fan forced incubator would be better for reptiles but his comment was..
normally the Reptile egg is hatched under ground, NO FAN. The top of the egg is then hotter than the bottom because the top of egg is closer to the surface of the ground.
I have been doing this for 25 years and deal with over 2000 Environment people on the ground and all Australian Government Dept's and Zoos.
The Reptile egg hatches far better and with larger % if in still air incubator.
I also deal with Malcolm Douglas who breeds Crocs. With that said: If you wanted a fan forced incubator, we would then supply same.
We carry the largest selection of incubators in Australia and supply most shops around Australia with their stock.
So whats the go?

i know its easy enough to make a box put heat cord and thermostat in etc, only looking at buying one cause quail eggs need turning every 4 hours and the one I'm getting has added auto quail egg turners but was thinking of doubling it as a reptile incubator just by using a divider instead of the turner

Fan forced incubators are a lot better as the air is circulated which
eliminates hot spots and provides even heat throughout the incubator.
We used to run 6 forced air incubators for pheasant and quail production
With a combined egg content of 6500.
Our rep incubators are fan forced as well

slower and the other prob you have is that they are a native species and as
such it would be illegal to use them as a food product

i use a fan forced intensive care unit, its results are perfect even temp, in every part of the ICU unit, with a +/- of 0.5 degrees celcius, i would highly recomend using a fan to move/circulate air in your incubator.
