I have recently taken into care a Red Belly that some misguided soul took a stick to. He has several broken ribs along with a large bulge mid section. I will post some pici's shortly and post his progress over the coming weeks until release.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts as to how you would treat this animal if placed in your care.
For those who are interested.

I wouldn't even put a live rat in with my Taipans or Scrubbies. Nasty little suckers they are.
Wild or not, I would only be giving it dead food items.
Has it been to the Vet?
Reptiles are good at hiding major injuries. Probably would be a good idea to properly find out the true extent of the injuries as it may look ok but the injury may be slowly killing it. Being whacked, it may have as stated bruising and busted ribs but you could also be looking at internal bleeding and ruptured internal organs.

In Sydney there are several vets you can take the snake to or you can use the method that most snake catchers in Sydney have used for years. Throw it in a bag and check it in a few weeks. If its dead it was going to die. If its not it must be ok.
I haven't seen the snake so I cant offer advice on how to look after it. If it has internal injuries it will die over time. A vet may be able to assist somewhat and advise if euthanasia should be considered.

Rumpleseed, Id be taking it to the vet. Chances are that it has damaged organs and other internal damage if its been hit by a stick, even a broken back is possible. I'd let the vet decide wats wrong with it, and if it wasnt Euthanased, the vet would probably give you some type of Antibiotic to use. If you've been doing it for 20 years im sure you know wat your doing... I'v recently joined a animal rescue group too, but i am inexperienced and i would just be asking one of the experienced members. (thats if the vet didnt Euth it)
